Embracing the Spirit of Giving

As we go about our busy lives, it’s easy to get caught up in our own concerns and forget about the struggles faced by those in our community. However, it’s at this time of year that we can come together and make a positive change right here in Calgary.

Giving Tuesday is the unofficial kickoff to giving season in Canada and organizations like CUPS rely on the generosity of businesses, individuals and families to provide the level of support we do for thousands who are struggling.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who donated on Giving Tuesday and for the many other individuals, families and corporations who have supported CUPS in 2023.

On the fence on whether to donate? We’ve put together some of the reasons people have chosen to donate to CUPS.

  1. CUPS’ approach to wrap-around, holistic care. Our entire care philosophy is patient-centred and integrated. We bring together primary care providers with mental health care through counselling initiatives, family support service, housing and economic support to give individuals and families support from all sides. All of our care is provided with a trauma-informed approach.

  2. CUPS’ commitment to research. CUPS is a leader in the social sector in Calgary and across the country. Programs and support services are built on the foundation of research and brain science, developed with experts to get to the root causes of some of the challenges people are facing. CUPS Executive Director Carlene Donnelly has been actively sharing 30+ years of expertise and knowledge as CUPS works to help other regions address the complexities of homelessness across the country.

  3. An act of kindness. Engaging in acts of kindness, like donating, fosters empathy and understanding in our community. Many people who are struggling have dealt with trauma and adverse experiences that have impacted their ability to thrive. By taking the time to learn and understand what has happened to someone, we can better connect with their struggles, break down barriers and create a sense of shared humanity. Everyone deserves compassion and support, regardless of their circumstances.

Your donations make a difference in the lives of our fellow community members. The spirit of giving is not only a generous act; it’s a commitment to building a more compassionate, connected and resilient community.
