Position Type: Permanent, 4 Days / Week

Position Summary

The Calgary and Area Child Advocacy Centre (CCAC) in partnership with CUPS is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Prenatal Outreach Support Team (POST).  POST is a collaborative initiative between the Calgary Police Service (CPS) and the CCAC to identify and provide specialized intervention and referrals for vulnerable pregnant individuals in high-risk situation. POST is proudly partnered with the CUPS in order to ensure low barrier access to prenatal care, education and support.

The RN is responsible for planning individualized nursing care to clients of the POST program while adhering to recognized nursing techniques, procedures and established standards based on the scope of nursing as outlined under the CARNA Nursing Practice Standards. The RN will report to the POST Team Lead as well as the Nurse Practitioner with CUPS. The POST program operates out of the CUPS clinic in Calgary.


  • Provide community health nursing to support POST clients who present with emergent clinical needs

  • Support clients in transitioning to community services

  • Form relationships with partnership organizations to support clients in their health needs

  • Make referrals to internal and external resources and provide “warm hand offs” as applicable

  • Facilitate culturally sensitive practices with clients

  • Establish positive relationships with clients that empower them to make decisions in their present situations

  • Act as a resource to the POST team 

  • Work within multidisciplinary and multi-agency team to provide optimal health care

  • Serve as a patient advocate

  • Participate in triage, including setting priorities and facilitating referrals to appropriate team members

  • Participate in staff meetings in a collaborative manner providing linkages between other teams

  • Provide support and education to the women and their family for pregnancy, labor and delivery and postpartum care

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Current CARNA registration

  • Current CPR

  • Well developed physical assessment skills

  • An understanding of homelessness, poverty, addictions and mental health

  • Ability to work as a team player as a multidisciplinary/multiagency team

  • Computer literacy that will assist in using the HER and Netcare

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Knowledge of community resources, women’s health issues including experience with pre and postnatal care and working with clients struggling with addictions, poverty and homelessness with be an asset

  • Successful candidate will require an enhanced security check

About the Calgary & Area Child Advocacy Centre:

The CCAC is a Calgary based not-for-profit organization. The CCAC works in collaboration with relevant partner organizations to best serve children and families who are involved in the investigation and treatment of child abuse. The CCAC is a physical site, where more than 125 professionals deal with the criminal investigation, child protection, medical and psychosocial needs of children, youth and families impacted by child abuse and maltreatment. The focus of work at the CCAC is children and youth who have experienced sexual abuse and severe and complex physical abuse and neglect.
